Hotel Chemnitzer Hof
Opened in 1930, the “Chemnitzer Hof” is situated on the Theaterplatz square in Chemnitz. The 4-star superior hotel is a true classic clad in a new style.
History
The “Chemitzer Hof” hotel was opened on 7th October 1930. The hotel built by the graduate engineer Prof. Dr. Heinrich Straumer in Bauhaus style was only available again to guests though after the Second World War in 1948. In 1954 it came under direction of the state trade organisation and in 1965 it was elected as an Interhotel (DDR hotel chain).
Since 1992 the hotel belongs to the Günnewig Hotels && Restaurants group, which renovated the building over a period of nine months.
The restaurant, ballrooms and attractive lobby were resurrected according to original building plans. What remains is everything that has always defined the nobility and uniqueness of the hotel: the breath of magnificent architecture in marble, brass and sandstone.
Place and location
The hotel is in the most beautiful square for architecture - the Theaterplatz with the Petrikirche (St. Peter’s church), the König-Albert museum and the opera house. Chemnitz will surprise you with its artistic offerings; the oldest landmark of the city is the 12th century “Rote Turm”. Bauhaus, renaissance, Jugendstil and industrial architecture are all united in the new city centre.
Rooms and amenities
The 4-star superior hotel is a modern-style classic and has 92 rooms in first-class and comfort categories 3 of which are suites. The “Chemnitzer Hof” has a total of 137 beds. All rooms in the hotel are equipped with bath and/or shower/WC, hairdryer, cable TV, telephone, fax/modem connection, radio, mini bar and safe (other amenities according to category). Guests can find wireless network access in all rooms and on the ground floor. The hotel also offers its guests the “Opera” restaurant and lounge, a sauna, business room, lift and direct access to the city’s underground car park.
The “Chemnitzer Hof” has five comfortable, air-conditioned conference and function rooms with daylight and wireless network for up to 350 people for conferences, seminars and presentations.
Food and drink
In the Opera restaurant and lounge a stylish, light and modern atmosphere awaits guests. In “Opera” and the ballrooms and function rooms the hotel provides culinary specialities of fine international cuisine in Mediterranean style with regional accents of cuisine from Saxony.
Sights
Chemnitz' attractions include the castles Augustusburg, Lichtenwalde and Burg Scharfenstein. The Daetz Centre for international wood sculptures and Miniworld with over 100 detailed structures on a scale of 1:25 which are true to the original are equally worth a visit. Combine this with a visit to the small planetarium Minikosmos. Those interested in museums can look forward to the Industry Museum and the Natural History Museum with its “stone forest”.
Culture
Chemnitz offers an abundance of culture. The “Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz” (Chemnitz art collections) and the Gunzenhauser Museum with one of the largest Otto Dix collections in the world are particularly recommended.
The Chemnitz opera house has been famous in Germany and all over the world since the “The Ring of the Nibelungen” performance. The opera house offers an attractive and varied programme.
It is also worth visiting the “Villa Esche”. It is a historical building of European standing. In Chemnitz there is also the Industry Museum, the Chemnitz Arena with sport and cultural events, the Oben Gallery and the cultural department store “DAStietz” with museums, galleries and shops.
